LandRover TD5 EGR Bypass Kit £52.88 Inc Vat + postageIt is very common for owners of the LandRover Defender and Discovery TD5 to blank off there EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation system) . The benefits of blanking the EGR system are to help prevent the dirty used exhaust gass from entering back into the inlet manifold via the EGR, It also helps to reduce air inlet temperatures because it makes the car run only on fresh air coming from the air filter box.
A lot of Landrover TD5 owners tend to just fit an oval blanking plate that goes between the exhaust manifold and the EGR pipe its self. This does make it so the inlet system stays clean by blocking the exhaust gasses which of course is good for performance.
With our blanking kit this method can be improved upon because the actual EGR valve assembly it self can causes quite a restriction to inlet airflow rate due to the lump/Valve thatis located inside the valve its self, as you can see in the pictures below. The picture on the left shows the early EGR valve assembly, as used on 1998 - 2001 models. The middle picture shows the EGR valve assemby used on 2001 - 2004 models, which has an additional butterfly valve, causing an even greater restriction!
Our solution to this issue was to produce our own LandRover TD5 EGR bypass kit which has a straight through design and will fit the Land Rover Defender TD5 and Discovery TD5, as can be seen on the right, above. This results in improved engine torque, giving a smoother, more flexible engine.
This kit is a direct replacement for the original EGR valve, and bolts neatly between the intercooler outlet and inlet manifold.
The egr valve body replacement is made from high a quality Water profile cut aluminium billet base and a tube with a rolled edge to keep the safe fixing of the intercooler hose.
The exhaust manifold blanking plate is made from 6mm thick mild steel, Both items are made from the same type materials as original parts would have been, so will give a perfect fit under all engine conditions and use.
